Rajasthan Royals defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 20 runs in the fourth match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Rajasthan put up a big total of 193 for four after opting to bat. Lucknow tried hard but couldn’t chase the target, managing just 173 for six.
Rajasthan lost Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal early after their cameos. After that, skipper Sanju Samson (82 not out: 52b, 3x4, 6x6) and Riyan Parag (43:29b, 1x4, 3x6) steadied the innings. They added 93 runs for the third wicket which put pressure on the opposition. While Parag perished in the 15th over, Samson batted till the end. Dhruv Jurel played a brutal cameo that made sure Rajasthan finished on a high. They ended with a total of 193 for four. For Lucknow, Naveen-ul-Haq picked two wickets.
Lucknow were off the worst possible start to their innings. Lucknow lost Quinton de Kock, Devdutt Padikkal, and Ayush Badoni early. Lucknow were tottering at 11 for three and things got worse when Deepak Hooda (26:13b, 2x4, 2x6) perished after a start. However, it was skipper KL Rahul (58:44b, 4x4, 2x6) and his deputy Nicholas Pooran who bailed the team out of trouble. The duo added 85 runs that revived the hopes of Lucknow fans. While Rahul fell at a vital stage, Pooran (64:41b, 4x4, 4x6) tried his best but couldn’t take the team home. Lucknow managed just 173 for six and lost the game by 20 runs.
