Asked to bat, Mumbai posted a total of 192 for seven, in response Punjab gave their best but fell short.
Mumbai lost Ishan Kishan early for eight runs but after that, Rohit Sharma (36:25b, 2x4, 3x6) and Suryakumar Yadav (78:53b, 7x4, 3x6) brought their team back into the game. Rohit-Suryakumar added 81 runs for the second wicket and put Mumbai in the driver’s seat.
Tilak Varma (34 not out: 18b, 2x4, 2x6) played a perfect finishing innings as Mumbai ended with a total of 192 for seven. For Punjab, Harshal Patel was the pick of the bowlers with his figures of three for 31.
Punjab had the worst possible start to their innings. Mumbai pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Gerald Coetzee were all over the batters and left the opposition tottering at 77 for six.
The reliable duo of Shashank Singh (41: 25b, 2x4, 3x6) and Ashutosh Sharma (61:28b, 2x4, 7x6) then brought their team back into the game. They put Mumbai under tremendous pressure and took the game deep.
But Mumbai bowlers held their nerves and closed off the game well, winning by nine runs and bundling out Punjab for 183.
