Match Report

Australia outclassed Men in Blue by five wickets at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. Asked to bat first, India posted a mammoth total of 222 for three whereas Australia chased the target off the last ball.

India didn’t have a great start to their innings as they lost Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan early. However, after that, Suryakumar Yadav (39:29b, 5x4, 2x6) played a whirlwind knock that brought India back into the game. After that, it was all about Ruturaj Gaikwad (123 not out: 13x4, 7x6) as he played a blinder of an innings. He brought up his maiden century and put Australia under pressure. The opening batter was supported well by Tilak Varma (31 not out:24b, 4x4) as India posted a gigantic total of 222 for three. For Australia, Jason Behrendroff (one for 12) was the pick of the bowlers.

Australia was off to a brutal start as Aaron Hardie (16:12b, 3x4) and Travis Head (35:18b, 8x4) took the attack to Indian bowlers. They added 47 runs for the opening partnership but after that, India came back strongly and reduced them to 68 for three. Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis (17:21b, 2x4) added 60 runs for the fourth wicket to bring Australia back into the game. There was a twist in the tale again as India picked two back-to-back wickets to put pressure back. However, Maxwell (108 not out: 48b, 8x4, 8x6) slammed a brutal ton and outplayed India to take his team home by five wickets.
