Marsh's all-round show goes in vain

Sunrisers Hyderabad finally posted a win the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season as they beat Delhi Capitals by nine runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday night.

After opting to bat, Hyderabad posted 197 for six in their 20 overs and in their response Delhi finished on 188 for six in their 20 overs.

Earlier, Abhishek Sharma held the innings together as an opener. He shared crucial stands with Mayank Agarwal, Rahul Tripathi and skipper Aiden Markram. However, after a 39 run third wicket stand between Markram and Sharma the innings suffered a collapse. Hyderabad slipped from 83 for two to 83 for four. Sharma carried on as he finished on 67 off 36 balls with 12 boundaries and a six. Then towards the end, Hyderabad's score swelled thanks to a 53 run sixth wicket stand between Heinrich Klaasen and Abdul Samad. Klaasen finished unbeaten on 53 off 27 balls with two boundaries and four sixes. Hyderabad finished on 197 for six in their 20 overs. For Delhi the best bowler was Mitchell Marsh (4-27).

In their response Delhi's innings was well served by a 112 run stand between Phil Salt and Marsh. Salt finished on 59 off 35 balls with nine boundaries. Marsh made 63 off 39 balls with one boundary and six sixes. After Salt fell, the innings slipped from 112 for one to 125 for four. Then after Salt and Marsh the innings slipped further. Delhi kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Towards the end Axar Patel tried to use the long handle to good effect. In the end Delhi finished on 188 for six in their 20 overs. For Hyderabad the best bowler was Mayank Markande (2-20).
