Lucknow snatch defeat from the jaws of victory

Gujarat Giants snatched victory from the jaws of defeat as they beat Lucknow Super Giants by seven runs at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Saturday.

After opting to bat, Gujarat posted 135 for six in their 20 overs and in their response Lucknow finished on 128 for seven in their 20 overs.

Gujarat was well served by a 68 run second wicket stand between Wriddhiman Saha and skipper Hardik Pandya. Together the pair took the score to 72 for one. Saha made 47 off 37 balls with six boundaries. Pandya then carried on. He added 40 runs for the fifth wicket with David Miller. Pandya finished on 66 off 50 balls with two boundaries and four sixes. Gujarat finished on 135 for six in their 20 overs. For Lucknow the best bowlers were Krunal Pandya (2-16) and Marcus Stoinis (2-20).

In their response, Lucknow started off well with skipper Lokesh Rahul and Kyle Mayers adding 55 for the first wicket. Then Rahul added 51 runs for the second wicket with Krunal Pandya. Lucknow was placed at 106 for one. Then the innings slipped considerably. The chase lost its way. In the last over Lucknow needed 12 runs for a win with seven wickets in hand. But Lucknow lost four wickets in four balls in the final over as they finished on 128 for seven in their 20 overs. Rahul made 68 off 61 balls with eight boundaries. For Gujarat the best bowlers were Mohit Sharma (2-17) and Noor Ahmad (2-18).
