Kolkata snap losing streak, finally win

Kolkata Knight Riders snapped their four match losing streak as they beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 21 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

Asked to bat, Kolkata posted 200 for five in their 20 overs and in their response Bangalore finished on 179 for eight in their 20 overs.

Earlier, Kolkata started off well with their openers Jason Roy and Narayan Jagadeesan putting on 83 for the first wicket. Roy finished on 56 off 29 balls with four boundaries and five sixes. Then Venkatesh Iyer teamed up with skipper Nitish Rana as they added 80 runs for the third wicket. Iyer made 31 and Rana finished on 48 off 21 balls. Thereafter towards the end Rinku Singh and David Wiese used the long handle to good effect as Kolkata finished on 200 for five in their 20 overs. For Bangalore the best bowlers were Wanindu Hasaranga (2-24) and Vijaykumar Vyshak (2-41).

In their response, Bangalore lost their top-order cheaply. The innings was reduced to 58 for three in 5.5 overs. Then skipper Virat Kohli added 58 runs for the fourth wicket with Mahipal Lomror. Then there was a collapse again. Kohli ended on 54 off 37 balls with six boundaries. Lomror made 34 off 18 balls. Then towards the end Dinesh Karthik tried to revive the chase but it was too little too late. In the end Bangalore finished on 179 for eight in their 20 overs. For Kolkata the best bowlers were Varun Chakravarthy (3-27), Andre Russell (2-29) and Suyash Sharma (2-30).
