England lost Joe Root early on the third day as Jasprit Bumrah removed him for the ninth time in Tests. Kuldeep Yadav then trapped Jonny Bairstow leg before wicket for a duck and then removed Ben Duckett (153:151b, 23x4, 2x4) to end the first session on a high. England skipper Ben Stokes (41:89b, 6x4) and Ben Foakes tried to keep the visitors in the hunt but India bowlers were on the top of their game. Mohammed Siraj claimed four wickets as the hosts wrapped up England innings for 319, taking a lead of 126 runs.
India had a decent start to their second innings but Rohit Sharma (19: 28b, 3x4) got out against the run of play. But after that, it was a show from Yashasvi Jaiswal (104:133b, 9x4, 5x6) and Shubman Gill. The duo eased into the innings terrifically and put England under pressure. They added 155 runs for the second wicket before the left-hander retired hurt with back spasms. Rajat Patidar couldn’t get going as he bagged a 10-ball duck. Gill remained unbeaten on 65 off 120 balls with six boundaries and two sixes.
