Brandon Nakashima showed off his best power play in his first match on Wednesday at the 2023 Miami Open presented by Itau. He defeated Oscar Otte 7-6(3), 6-3 to advance to the second round of the ATP Masters 1000 event.
Nakashima, 21, raised his game on two crucial points to win the 88-minute match, which was largely decided by serves. He maintained his composure throughout. After dominating the tie-break in the first set with a string of straight victories, he won the match's sole break of service in the sixth game of the second set with some excellent returns.
In his first ATP Head2Head match, Nakashima defeated Otte of Germany without losing a break point. The Global No. 45 defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the 20th seed, in the second round by hitting 28 winners, including 10 aces.
