After being asked to bat, Kolkata posted 179 for seven in their 20 overs and in their response Gujarat finished on 180 for three in 17.5 overs.
Earlier, Rahmanullah Gurbaz held the innings together as wickets fell around him. The innings was well served by a 37 run third wicket stand between Gurbaz and Venkatesh Iyer. Gurbaz then put on 47 runs for the fifth wicket with Rinku Singh. Gurbaz finally fell for 81 off 39 balls with five boundaries and seven sixes. Towards the end, Andre Russell used the long handle to good effect. Russell made 34 off 19 balls with two boundaries and three sixes. Kolkata finished on 179 for seven in their 20 overs. For Gujarat the best bowlers were Mohammed Shami (3-33), Josh Little (2-25) and Noor Ahmad 2-21).
In their response, Gujarat started off well as their openers Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill added 41. Then Gill added 50 runs for the second wicket with skipper Hardik Pandya. Gill made 9 off 35 balls with eight boundaries. The innings slipped from 91 for one to 91 for three. Then Vijay Shankar teamed up with David Miller for the fourth wicket. Shankar and Miller added an unbroken 89 for the fourth wicket. Shankar finished on an unbeaten on 51 off 24 balls with two boundaries and five sixes. In the end Gujarat finished on 180 for three in 17.5 overs.
