Novak Djokovic set a new record by defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the hard-court Grand Slam final by scores of 6-3, 7-6(4), and 7-6(5). With his victory in Melbourne, the Serbian broke Rafael Nadal's record of 22 Grand Slam titles.
In response to the historic win, Djokovic felt a lot of emotion. At Melbourne Park's Garden Square, as Serbian flags were waved, he climbed inside his player box to celebrate with his team.
The 35-year-old regained the top spot in the Pepperstone ATP Rankings for the first time since June of last year with his victory. Djokovic won his 10th tour-level match by defeating Tsitsipas, who would have won the title if he had won the final on Sunday. On Monday, Djokovic will take over as leader from Carlos Alcaraz.
