Asked to bat, Mumbai posted 139 for eight in their 20 overs and in their response Chennai finished on 140 for four in 17.4 overs.
Earlier, Mumbai lost their top-order cheaply as they were reduced to 14 for three in 2.5 overs. Then a 55 run fourth wicket stand between Nehal Wadhera and Suryakumar Yadav revived the innings. Wadhera then teamed up with Tristan Stubbs as they added 58 runs for the fifth wicket. Wadhera fell for 64 off 51 balls with eight boundaries and a six. Towards the end Mumbai lost its way as they finished on 139 for eight in their 20 overs. For Chennai the best bowlers were Matheesha Pathirana (3-15), Deepak Chahar (2-18) and Tushar Deshpande (2-26).
In their response Chennai began well as their openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway put on 46 for the first wicket. Gaikwad fell first for 30 off 16 balls with four boundaries and two sixes. Then Conway added 35 runs for the second wicket with Ajinkya Rahane. Conway finished on 44 off 42 balls with four boundaries. Then Shivam Dube took charge of the chase as he scored an unbeaten 26 off 18 balls with three sixes. In the end Chennai finished on 140 for four in 17.4 overs. For Mumbai the best bowler was Piyush Chawla (2-25).
