Chennai prevail in high-scoring contest

Chennai Super Kings prevailed in a high-scoring encounter over Royal Challengers Bangalore by eight runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Monday.

Asked to bat, Chennai posted 226 for six in their 20 overs and in response Bangalore finished on 218 for eight in their 20 overs.

Earlier, Devon Conway and Ajinkya Rahane put on 74 runs for the second wicket. Rahane made 37 off 20 balls with three boundaries and two sixes. Then Conway added 80 runs for the third wicketwith Shivam Dube. Conway finished on 83 off 45 balls with six boundaries and six sixes. Dube made 52 off 27 balls with two boundaries and five sixes. Towards the end Moeen Ali and Ambati Rayudu swung their bats around. In the end Chennai finished on 226 for six in their 20 overs.

In their response Bangalore lost their top-order cheaply. Then skipper Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell put on a 126 run third wicket stand to put the chase back on track. Maxwell made 76 off 36 balls with three boundaries and eight sixes. du Plessis ended on 62 off 33 balls with five boundaries and four sixes. Towards the end Dinesh Karthik, Shahbaz Ahmed and Suyash Prabhudessai played useful cameos, but it was not enough. Bangalore finished on 218 for eight in their 20 overs. For Chennai the best bowlers were Tushar Deshpande (3-45) and Matheesha Pathirana (2-42).
