India register historic win to level series 1-1

Day two of the second Test match between South Africa and India of the two-match series went in favour of India.

The Newlands in Cape Town saw the game between two teams ending in just two days, or 642 deliveries to be precise. South Africa posted a total of 176 runs in the second innings, setting India a target of 79.

The visitors then scripted history as they chased the target with seven wickets in hand to register their first-ever Test win in Cape Town. The two-Test series between the two teams ended at 1-1.

At the start of the second day South Africa was trailing by 36 runs, but they didn’t have a great start to day two as they lost David Bedingham in the very first over. Jasprit Bumrah then continued his carnage on the opposition as he picked a fifer in no time and put the hosts under pressure.

Aiden Markam (106:103b, 17x4, 2x6) then took the onus to himself and slammed one of his best Test hundreds. He made sure that he helped his team take the lead and put India under pressure. His heroics powered South Africa to 176 and helped them to take a lead of 78.

India had a flying start in the chase as Yashasvi Jaiswal (28:23b,6x4) played some sensational strokes up front. In an attempt to hit, he lost his wicket but made sure he added 44 runs in the opening partnership with skipper Rohit Sharma.

Shubman Gill (10:11b, 2x4) tried to get going but perished. Sharma (17 not out: 22b, 2x4) along with Virat Kohli (12:11b, 2x4) then brought the team close to the target. Later, Shreyas Iyer hit the winning runs to take his team home.
