Gujarat on firm footing at top of the table

Gujarat Titans consolidated their hold at the top of the points table in the IPL 2023 as they beat Rajasthan Royals by nine wickets at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Friday.

After opting to bat, Rajasthan was bowled out for 118 in 17.5 overs and in response Gujarat overhauled the target in 13.5 overs to finish on 119 for one.

Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal and skipper Sanju Samson put on 36 runs for the second wicket to revive the innings. Then the innings slipped as they lost wickets in a heap. They went from 47 for one to 69 for five and then 77 for six. Samson was the top-scorer with 30 off 20 balls with three boundaries and a six. Towards the end Trent Boult used the long handle to good effect. But it was not enough as Rajasthan was bowled out for 118 in 17.5 overs. For Gujarat the best bowlers were Rashid Khan (3-14) and Noor Ahmad (2-25).

In their response, Gujarat started off well. Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill put on 71 for the first wicket. Gill fell first for 36 off 35 balls with six boundaries. Saha then teamed up with skipper Hardik Pandya to add 48 runs for the second wicket in an unbroken stand. Saha remained unbeaten on 41 off 34 balls with five boundaries. Pandya made a quickfire unbeaten 39 off 15 balls with three boundaries and three sixes. Gujarat overhauled the target in 13.5 overs to finish on 119 for one.
